Conclusion & Refrencing

Dear Diary,

I believe I have made a great contribution to the early stages of astronomy and cosmology. I have stabilized the soil of the starting ground of astronomy and have left work for philosophers like my self to continue onto where I had left of.

Not every theory is always correct and not every model can always be accurate. This is due to technology and the limitations of what humans can achieve.

A lot of what I had proposed in my life can relate to what is believed to be mathematically and scientifically correct today. It can be thought of as a basis of the study of space.

Your sincerely, Aristotle.

I believe Aristotle had made a great contribution to astronomy. Specially at a time where technology and knowledge on such a topic was very limited. Aristotle set the ground for astronomy and it is why he is well known for it today.

Technology has changed

Dear Diary, 2012

Technology is very different to what was available back during my days. Our knowledge back in the days was very broad and we did not have the technology that we have today.

Many many years after my discoveries Kepler, using the most advanced observatory was able to confirm the heliocentric model and prove that planets orbit around the sun hence proposing the 3 "Laws of Planetary Motion". Years after that, a telescope was invented by Galileo.

In my days, these did not exist. Without these technologies, a large percentage of what is known today could never have been discovered. Our human capabilities are very limited when it comes to astronomy and cosmology and we can only prove what we can see with our bare eyes and comprehend with our mind.

All of the theories until the time of Galileo, were limited by the lack of the telescope. Without telescopes, all measurements, observations were made by naked-eye, and were limited of accuracy.
If telescopes had been available earlier, then Parallax might have been observed in nearby stars, and greater accuracy would have been possible in measuring planetary positions and movements.
This would have led to the rejection of the "epicycles" and perhaps the correct heliocentric model would have been accepted earlier.

Assessing my theories - correct and incorrect

Dear Diary, 2012

There have been a reasonable amount of misleading concepts within my theories in comparison to current theories of the universe.

Starting off with the main one, the earth being in the centre of the universe. This is not correct and it is currently proven that the sun is in the centre of the solar system, which is not in the centre of the universe. We as a earth are orbiting the sun due to it's massive gravitational field. This is because larger masses have a larger gravitational field.

With that first concept out of the way, we can now explain the truth behind retrograde motion. The existence of the quintessences and crystalline spheres do not actually exist. Although the planets appear to move backwards at certain time, this is only what our eyes perceive. In reality, this is due to us observing the planets from our very own earth, a moving planet. With this in mind, at certain points we "overtake" the planet were observing and due to this it appears to have a reverse movement but in reality, it's not.
In other words, put a finger in front of your eyes and look at a very distant object with one eye closed. Now switch eyes closing the other eye and opening your other one. The object appears to have moved back relative to your hand.

Now onto the circular motion of the planets that I have theorised. It appears that planets do not actually have a circular orbit but in fact that they are elliptical. The most precise proof would need to be mathematically viewed , so I will explain this as simple as I can in my own words. The sun is a giant mass, generating an enormous gravitational field. This attracts our earth causing it to orbit in a circular motion. Now let's add Jupiter to our scenery. This planet also has an enormous mass but is quite small compared to the sun. Now the gravitational field of Jupiter will have an effect similar to our sun onto our earth. This depends on the mass and distance of Jupiter. Now add all the other objects around that exist within our solar system, all these masses will have the same effect on our earth in turn modifying it's orbit to that from a circular to and elliptical.

Although I was wrong in many aspects, I was correct about the spherical shape of the earth. Good news, eh?

Many of my theories have been modified and corrected. This is due to advancements in technology which lead to discoveries and hence increasing our knowledge of the known universe.

Current theories and Ideas

Dear Diary, 2012

The current confirmed theory and model of the universe is not the geocentric model but is in fact the heliocentric model, helio meaning sun. Within this model, the sun is the centre of our solar system with all other planets, including our earth orbiting around it.

It is now believed that the orbit of the planets is in fact elliptical and not circular. Planets do have a very close to circular orbit but it's not perfectly circular which is why they're considered to be elliptical. Evidence of this can be the seasons on earth due to the change of distance from the sun and the tilt of the earth.

It is now known that the crystalline structures and the reverse movements of the planets are not true and do not exist/happen. This can easily be explained with the current heliocentric model. The real explanation of the retrograde motion is that we view the moving planets from the earth, as the earth itself is also moving. During particular parts of our orbit, we "overtake" other planets so it appears that they move backwards for a short while.

Crystalline Spheres and circular orbits

Dear Diary,

I have now come to believe that the orbit of the planets around our earth is exactly a circular orbit. This comes to be due to the shape of the earth being spherical hence cause the planets to orbit around it in a round path. This path is constant and does not change.

One of my most recent and greatest theories I have been working on has been to explain why a planet appears to have a random movement of slowing down, reversing direction for a short distance then speeding back up along it's circular orbit. I call this it's epicycle and it's a part of its retrograde motion. What may cause the planet to perform these weird movements?

I believe that there are crystalline spheres which each planet is carried on and move around cause it's backward motion. These crystalline spheres are also a part of the planet and are moving along with it around our earth hence the planet is actually following two orbits; around the earth and around the crystalline sphere. The orbit around it's sphere is called the epicycle.

I believe these crystalline spheres to be made of an element not found on our earth, but only found within other celestial objects. This element is not visible to us and is a type of quintessence.

Earth Is a Sphere.

Dear Diary,

I have now concluded that the earth is in fact a spherical planet. It is completely round. The main evidence i have of this is during a lunar eclipse, the shadow of the earth appears on the moon as a rounded shape. This must mean that the earth is in fact a sphere.

More evidence to prove this theory is that we can see the sail before the ship when on sea. Also, the height of stars has constantly been changing as we move.

I hence now conclude the shape of the earth to be a sphere along with other celestial objects within space.

Earth in the centre

Dear Diary, 330BC

There is a theory that I have proposed. It is that in which the earth is placed in the centre of the universe. Planets and the sun orbit the earth. This is called Geocentric, geo meaning earth and centric meaning in the centre.

As of now, I have discovered five planets; Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn respectively. There is also the sun and the moon.

I believe these planets orbit around our planet earth.
